What it brought

Visualforce appeared in Winter '08 as a developer preview in Developer Edition: a tag-based markup framework for building custom user interfaces natively on Force.com, aimed at the rigidity of page layouts and the limits of s-controls. Developer work makes up 35 of the release's 130 notes. Apex became an add-on for Enterprise Edition and gained HTTP callouts, an inbound email service, Crypto and XmlStreamReader classes and per-namespace governor limits. Salesforce to Salesforce shares leads, opportunities and custom objects between organizations, tagging came to all Editions, and Salesforce Ideas and Salesforce Content shipped. Logins got stricter, with identity confirmation, trusted IP ranges and security tokens for API and desktop logins.
