What it brought

Profiles in Enterprise and Developer Editions got separate Read, Create, Edit and Delete permissions for each object in Winter '05, and delegated administration groups let admins hand off user management and custom object work without giving away the whole org. At 117 notes it is a large release, weighted toward customization. Very large orgs could have divisions enabled to segment records and scope search, list views and reports. Service teams got assets for tracking purchased products, and a solution category hierarchy browsable from the Self-Service portal. If you relied on the weekly export, its column order and headings changed, and record IDs went from 15 to 18 characters.
