What it brought

Apex Code became generally available in Summer '07, in Unlimited and Developer Editions and at extra cost in Enterprise, so business logic could live on the platform: triggers, classes, Salesforce SOA callouts to remote SOAP services, classes generated from a WSDL and an Ant deployment tool. Administrators got custom report types, built from chosen objects, relationships and fields, and roll-up summary fields that count, sum or take the minimum or maximum of detail records without a report. Contact sharing became independent of accounts, and orgs could have multiple sandboxes. The Customer Portal and Call Center Edition both reached GA. Apex Code packages were deprecated in favour of classes.
