A tour · 8 stops · 3 min

How long an old name lasts

Old names in Setup, licence names and later notes, even after Salesforce announces a replacement.

This is the tour’s text. In 3D each stop frames the notes it talks about; every stop below links to its view.

Where do the old names go?

A rename can change what appears in Setup without changing what an implementation does. In these notes, some old names almost disappear in a release; others survive for years in licences, URLs and the product itself.

We match names in the text, counting each note once per name. The counts describe wording, not product use.

Some names disappear fast

Salesforce1 fell from 109 notes to one, the rename announcement, when Salesforce dropped the “1” from its mobile app’s name. Every other old name here remained in more notes when its replacement arrived.

Larger dots mean more notes use the name. Grey rows show old names; lines mark the arrival of their replacements.

The notes use Lightning Platform and plain Salesforce for much else, so those names aren’t counted.

Force.com turns up in Slack notes

Salesforce renamed Force.com to Lightning Platform with a warning: the old name would take time to remove. Eight years later, new notes about Salesforce channels in Slack still listed a Force.com App Subscription licence.

The analytics product, renamed again

Wave became Einstein Analytics, then Tableau CRM, then CRM Analytics: three renames in five years. At the last switch, Salesforce promised the same experience and warned that it had yet to replace the previous name everywhere in the product.

Pardot was still in the app

Salesforce introduced the Account Engagement name while admins could still see Pardot in the app. It acknowledged the mismatch in a repeated footnote: “We wish we could snap our fingers to update the name everywhere.” The last Pardot mention here comes two years later.

Copilot’s name changed within a year

Salesforce renamed Einstein Copilot to Agentforce two releases after its first appearance in the notes, “with no changes in functionality”. It updated permission names and Setup labels, and told admins their existing implementations would keep working.

Data Cloud and Data 360 overlap

The Data 360 rename notice warned that Salesforce was still updating the interface and documentation. By Summer ’26, the old Data Cloud name still appeared in more than half as many notes as Data 360.

Sales Cloud comes back in the notes

Agentforce Sales overtook Sales Cloud in the Summer ’26 notes. In the Winter ’27 preview notes, Sales Cloud leads again, the only old name here to outnumber its replacement in these latest notes.

These are small mention counts from preview documentation; they do not establish a formal reversal of the rename.
